HSEB Notes on Classification of Computer on the Basis of Size
Class : 11

The digital computers that are available nowadays vary in their sizes and types. The computers are broadly classified into four categories  based on their size and type : (1) Microcomputers, (2) Minicomputers, (3) Mainframe computers, and (4) Supercomputer.

Space measurement units
The size of device in computers does not reflect the space available to store data in it. There are larger devices that can store only a few data where as many tiny devices that stores unbelievable amount of data. Because how long, how thick etc cannot determine how much we can store inside, we need to find some other way to measure space. Almost all of the computers use binary numbering systems (though there are some exceptions). Binary numbering system consists of only two digits – 0 and 1 to represent any quantity. 10 in binary is equal to the 2 and 100 to 5. We will be learning this numbering system after some days.

History and Generation of Computer | HSEB Notes on Computer Science Class 11

HSEB Notes on History of computer science
Class : 11

The history of computer science began long before the modern discipline of computer science that emerged in the twentieth century, and hinted at in the centuries prior. The progression, from mechanical inventions and mathematical theories towards the modern concepts and machines, formed a major academic field and the basis of a massive worldwide industry.

Mechanical computers:
A mechanical computer is built from mechanical components such as levers and gears, rather than electronic components. The most common examples are adding machines and mechanical counters, which use the turning of gears to increment output displays. More complex examples can carry out multiplication and division, and even differential analysis.

HSEB Notes on Introduction and Evolution of Computer
Class : 11

A computer is a programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. The particular sequence of operations can be changed readily, allowing the computer to solve more than one kind of problem. An important class of computer operations on some computing platforms is the accepting of input from human operators and the output of results formatted for human consumption. The interface between the computer and the human operator is known as the user interface.

What is Computer Science?
Computer Science is the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression, and mechanization of the methodical processes (or algorithms) that underlie the acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication of, and access to information, whether such information is encoded in bits and bytes in a computer memory or transcribed in genes and protein structures in a human cell. The fundamental question underlying all of computing is: what computational processes can be efficiently automated and implemented? To tackle this seemingly simple question, computer scientists work in many complementary areas. They study the very nature of computing to determine which problems are (or are not) computable. They compare various algorithms to determine if they provide a correct and efficient solution to a concrete problem. They design programming languages to enable the specification and expression of such algorithms. They design, evaluate, and build computer systems that can efficiently execute such specifications. And, they apply such algorithms to important application domains.

Description:
In the game of Hangman, the computer chooses a  word at random from a given list of words. This word  is the answer. The player then tries to guess the word,  by guessing one letter at a time. Whenever the user guesses a letter that is in the answer, all occurrences  of that letter are revealed to the user. The game ends  when the user has guessed every letter in the word,  before he reaches the allowed number of strikes.
