What things to do after SLC(School leaving Certificate) Examination

For students giving the exam, SLC has meant a lot of stress. For months, you’ve had to discipline yourself, focus on hours of daily study routines while forgoing some of the activities you most enjoy. The great thing about SLC, though, is that once it’s over, there’s at least two months where you’re on break. This time might go sooner than you think, so it’s best to plan some exciting activities for your post-SLC break to finally get round to doing those things you’ve always wanted to do.

Bridge course
Yes, this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but joining a bridge course has become a popular choice for most awaiting their results. There’s that new headache of trying to get into a good school after your SLC so it might be a smart choice to take. These supplementary courses will definitely help you prepare for those
entrance exams looming overhead. But it’s not entirely a tedious thing. Joining a new course brings with it a new set of friends, and since many of the classes are during the morning, you still have the rest of the day to follow up on your hobbies, or catch up with old friends.

Recreational activities
Since your hobbies have been suffering a lot because of the fact that everyone, including yourself, has been pushing you to prioritise your studies for god knows how long, now is the time to pursue them full on. Whether you want to swim, dance, learn to sing or play an instrument, this is the time to plunge right in. And if you already have these skills well under your belt, then why not do something more daring and adventurous? Like start a band, or work on a theatre production. There’s nothing like being in charge of your life, especially at such a young age.

Work experience
You may think this one’s a certain no-no. You’ve just finished what was so far the biggest obligation in your life, and you don’t want to go back into the Responsibility Zone so soon. But think about this. Work experience doesn’t necessarily entail sitting in front of a desk and doing clerical work all day. Once you’ve figured out what you’re passionate about, you should see if there are such opportunities available. Many offices and organisations welcome interns for short periods. Journalism is one such option. But you could also do something more exciting, like work as a waiter at a restaurant or cafe. Or be an apprentice to an artist or musician. Work experience this early on in life is bound to be a very exciting thing because it helps you to meet real people from the real world, and do real tasks that make a difference. You will also get lots of opportunities to learn about the field in which you’re working.

Volunteer
If you want to take that idea of working a step further and work for others, then community service is another swell option. There are many NGOs around the country looking for SLC graduates who can do some kind of community service. Different jobs could include teaching at a community school, helping students in rural areas with their academics, serving at old-age homes or orphanages, and also organising programmes such as charity events to help the under-privileged.

Travel
Since it’s spring, travelling could be a whole lot of fun. And since you’re not the only one who’s free, but your entire gang of friends, you could definitely plan out a short trip to areas such as Godavari, Dhulikhel or Nagarkot. Or you could plan a longer trip to Chitwan, Pokhara, Gorkha, Manakamana or Bandipur. If you’re more athletic and would enjoy a bit of a workout, then try a bit of hiking—around the hills of Kathmandu or even through the trek circuits in the Annapurna or Everest regions.
